| | | | | | | | |  The palace was presented by Catherine II to her favourite Prince Potemkin-Tavrichesky named the Prince of Taurida for his successful military command during the conquest of Taurida (as the Crimea was called at that time). The building is an example of the XVIII century classicism. Now it houses the Intergovernmental Assembly of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) The Taurida Palace has one of the largest plenary hall in Saint Petersburg optimal for holding large international congresses up to 1000 delegates.
