| | | | | | | | |  On this site a terrorist from the revolutionary organization “People’s Will” mortally wounded Tsar Alexander II on March 1, 1881, by tossing a bomb at his feet. His son, Alexander III, began construction of memorial church in 1883 and it was completed in 1907 during the reign of Nicolas II.
 
Mosaic attire of the church (over 7.00 sq.m.) was created to the design of 30 artists, among them V.Vasnetsov, M.Nesterov, A.Ryabushkin, V.Belyaev, N.Kharlamov. The role of the wonderfully coloured and designed ornaments is very important for the impression of the mosaic decor of the church. The baldachin which was installed on the exact spot where Alexandre II was assassinated is of particular importance for the interior of the church, which was designed by Alfred Parland.
